FINAL SQUAD FOR IPL TEAMS............

chennai

Something All Professionals should know

Six software professionals under the age of 33 have died and 2 top
executives from renowned software companies have become paralyzed because
of stress-related heart ailments in the last six months in Chennai, says a
study by Mitran Foundation, a Bangalore-based voluntary association of
practising doctors.

"All the six who died, and the two who became invalid, had no family
history of heart attacks or any pre-history of heart ailments or paralysis.
They were all in their prime, between 27 and 33 years, and handled
challenging projects at work in their respective companies. They worked
long and continuous hours. The end struck them very suddenly, and it looked
as if their hearts refused to take any more stress ," said Dr Dwarakanath,
director of Mitran Foundation, who has studied stress components in 40
software companies in Chennai during the last six months.

The study, conducted at a cost of Rs 45 lakhs, covered more than 4,000
software professionals from 80 companies who were in service for a minimum
of three years.

Mobiles linked to disturbed sleep

The study, funded by mobile phone companies, suggests radiation from the handset can cause insomnia, headaches and confusion. It may also cut our amount of deep sleep - interfering with the body's ability to refresh itself. The study was carried out by Sweden's Karolinska Institute and Wayne State University in the US.Funded by the Mobile Manufacturers Forum, the scientists studied 35 men and 36 women aged between 18 and 45.Some were exposed to radiation equivalent to that received when using a mobile phone, others were placed in the same conditions, but given only "sham" exposure. Those exposed to radiation took longer to enter the first of the deeper stages of sleep, and spent less time in the deepest one.The scientists concluded: "The study indicates that during laboratory exposure to 884 MHz wireless signals components of sleep believed to be important for recovery from daily wear and tear are adversely affected."Researcher Professor Bengt Arnetz said: "The study strongly suggests that mobile phone use is associated with specific changes in the areas of the brain responsible for activating and coordinating the stress system."Another theory is that radiation may disrupt production of the hormone melatonin, which controls the body's internal rhythms.

story

A young boy enters a barber shop and the barber whispers to
his Customer,

"This is the dumbest kid in the world. Watch while I prove it
to you."

The barber puts a five rupee coin in one hand and two one rupee
coins(1+1=2) in the other, then calls the boy over and asks,

"Which do you want, son?"

The boy takes the two one rupee coins and leaves.
"What did I tell you?" said the barber. "That kid never
learns!" I have proved so many times by offering him coins

Later, when the customer leaves, he sees the same young boy
coming out of the ice cream store. "Hey, son! May I ask you a
question?
Why did you take two one rupee coins instead of five rupee
coin?"

The boy licked his cone and replied,

"Because THE DAY I TAKE THE FIVE RUPEE COIN, THE GAME IS OVER.
Moral : Don't be too quick to judge who is dumb and who isn't -
It may just be that - you are making a fool of yourself.

Brazil finds fossil of "missing link" to crocodile

Montealtosuchus arrudacamposi, a medium-sized lizard-like predator measuring about 5 1/2 feet (1.7 meters) from head to tail, dates back about 80 million years to the Late Cretaceous period.

"This is scientifically important because the specimen literally is the link between more primitive crocodiles that lived in the era of the dinosaurs 80-85 million years ago and modern species," said paleontologist Ismar de Souza Carvalho of Rio de Janeiro Federal University.

Montealtosuchus arrudacamposi, an agile terrestrial predator of the Peirosauridae family, had different habits from today's crocodiles but it was similar in form and structure despite having longer limbs, scientists said.

The fossil was found near the town of Monte Alto in Sao Paulo state and is named after the place and the local scientist who dug up the fossil in 2004 -- Arruda Campos.

The new species is one of a number of important finds by paleontologists in Brazil and Argentina over the past few years.

Scientists create 'no tears' onions

The discovery could signal an end to one of cooking's eternal puzzles: why does cutting up a simple onion sting the eyes and trigger teardrops?

The research institute in New Zealand, Crop and Food, used gene-silencing technology to make the breakthrough which it hopes could lead to a prototype onion hitting the market in a decade's time.

Colin Eady, the institute's senior scientist, said the project started in 2002 after Japanese scientists located the gene responsible for producing the agent behind the tears.

"We previously thought the tearing agent was produced spontaneously by cutting onions, but they proved it was controlled by an enzyme," he told AFP from his home outside Christchurch.

"Here in New Zealand we had the ability to insert DNA into onions, using gene-silencing technology developed by Australian scientists.

"The technology creates a sequence that switches off the tear-inducing gene in the onion so it doesn't produce the enzyme. So when you slice the vegetable, it doesn't produce tears."

Eady said that by stopping sulphur compounds from being converted to the tearing agent and redirecting them into compounds responsible for flavour and health, the process could even improve the taste of the onion.

"We anticipate that the health and flavour profiles will actually be enhanced by what we've done," he said.

"What we're hoping is that we'll essentially have a lot of the nice, sweet aromas associated with onions without that associated bitter, pungent, tear-producing factor."

The breakthrough has caused ripples overseas, following an international symposium in the Netherlands and after the trade journal Onion World featured Eady's work on the front cover of its December issue.

Eady, who has several model onion plants at the institute, said despite the excitement about the prospect of "no tears" onions in every home, it would be 10 to 15 years before this happened.

All about Cricket Gear

Cricket is a team sports same as American field hockey, extremely spirited and, maybe unduly, known as a game of the prosperous and privileged.
Cricket is a team sports same as American field hockey, extremely spirited and, maybe unduly, known as a game of the prosperous and privileged. Cricket carries a history of several centuries in British and Irish cultures. The game as played today created in England, and is crazily accepted in England along with many other countries inclined by British culture in the British labors of migration in the 18th and 19th centuries. Cricket gear is extremely specialized and precise in specifications.

Cricket is the hands-down really trendy sport in India, Pakistan, Australia and Bangladesh. It's as well extremely big in the down-under countries like South Africa and New Zealand. Kenya and the Caribbean countries as well take pleasure in huge followings of Cricket fans. The game requires specialized Cricket gear, and for the Cricket fan, is remarkably difficult to track down if you don't live in a country, which follows Cricket like Americans follow football.

The first cricket gear turns off little similarity to what's used today. The unique cricket bats looked much like a contemporary hockey stick. Legends maintain the first row method emerged out of a shepherd's crook. Today's cricket bat is made of willow wood conserved with linseed oil. According to the 42 laws of cricket, a cricket bat is not supposed go beyond 38 inches in length and a little more than four inches wide, comprising of a handle and paddle. The handle is padding and taped in a way same as to a tennis racket. The resemblance ends there, with the cricket bat being much more considerable than a tennis racket.

The established cricket ball is red or white with size of nine inches around. A good cricket ball begins with a core of covered twine and finished in skin wrapped around the twine to form the accepted surface. The game is played on an approximately oval-shaped grassland playing field, with a narrow piece of dirt down the center, called the pitch. At each end of the pitch are the “goalposts” consisting of three “stumps” that are actually perpendicular posts each at the bottom of two “bails”, together known as the wicket. Wickets are generally made of wood.

Snowboarding: Getting To Grips With The Basics

Snowboarding can be fun, but you need to learn the basics first. Formal lessons are always the best, and safest way to learn. After getting fitted with the right kit, there are some basic next steps.

The first step to snowboarding is practicing walking up an incline with the snowboard on. This is not as easy as it sounds but practice will quickly make you perfect. Next you would be wanting to start sliding down the hill in a slow and steady manner. This can be achieved by putting the weight on the heels and pointing down the toes on either feet and pulling them back in order to come to a halt. To learn to come to a stop is important and needs practice.

The next step, called skating, is where the snowboarder pushes the snow with his back foot and advances the front foot. This is a way of getting around smoothly and requires some practice also. These are the very basics. Advanced lessons for people who would like to jump, spin and bump are all handled by experienced and knowledgeable trainers. Knowledge about turning in the J-Pattern and negotiating linked turns are also handled by experienced staff after assessing comfort and skill with the basic steps.

The increasing attractiveness of snowboarding has given rise to a number of training schools and the training sessions offered are most advisable as the best way to get hold of the basics. The high level of physical activity involved in snowboarding enables easy learning and demonstration and practice brings perfection.

Win over Belgium preparation for Olympics: Carvalho

Win over Belgium preparation for Olympics: Carvalho

Chennai, Jan 31 (IANS) Chief national hockey coach Joaquim Carvalho sought to play down India's series win over Belgium here Thursday and stressed that the five matches were merely a preparatory exercise for the Olympic qualifying tournament in Santiago, Chile in March.

'The Test series has proved to be a good base for the assessment of our players. Winning against Belgium team is one thing and happiness of that victory is another. I feel, the players still have to lift their game a few more notches and work on the mistake they committed during the five games here,' he said.

India won the five-Test series 3-1. The first match was a 4-4 draw before the Indians won the next three 5-0, 3-2 and 2-1 while the Belgians enjoyed a 3-2 success in the concluding game.

Carvalho reiterated that the main objective of the Indian team was to qualify for the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Only the winner of the six-team tournament in Santiago March 1-9 will qualify for the games.

'That is our biggest challenge and all matches before that should be seen in that perspective,' Carvalho pointed out.

The coach appreciated the fact that he was given the opportunity to try out some of the younger players and said that the newcomers adapted themselves well to the conditions and opponents.

Carvalho felt that picking the final squad would not be easy as there was competition for virtually every position.

'However, as I have been saying all along, performance alone will be the criteria for selection and so, no player can afford to be complacent or take his place in the team for granted,' he said.
